North East Scotland Agricultural Advisory Group (NESSAG)

Our North East Regional Manager, Eilidh MacKechnie recently attended a meeting of NESAAG. Aberdeenshire Council hosts NESAAG, a major cross-sectoral forum that lobbies on behalf of the sector as well as providing support and advice both to the agricultural sector and the wider rural economy of the North East. The forum includes councillors from Aberdeen city and ‘shire, angus and the Moray council. Alongside Scottish Land & Estates, also represented are organisations such as the James Hutton Institute, Lantra, SAC Consulting and Opportunity North East (the ONE Group).

The meeting’s main focal points were the presentations given regarding the impact that the UK’s exit from the EU may have on Scottish agriculture and one that focussed on the Farm Advisory Service that is being rolled out by SAC Consulting. There was a great deal of discussion on many of the key points, as well as further questions regarding what changes may be coming to the way in which Scottish agriculture is supported. Despite the subject matter the presentations generated some very positive discussion and proposals for the way forward.
