Hosts sought for Open Farm Sunday

The organisers of the popular Open Farm Sunday are seeking hosts for this year’s event on Sunday 11 June 2017. Last year 21 farms in Scotland welcomed a collective attendance of 20,758, and Open Farm Sunday are on a mission to see this increase in 2017. They particularly want to focus on increasing the number of host farmers to provide a better geographical spread across Scotland.

On Tuesday 28 February they will be hosting a dedicated Scottish webinar lasting just 20 minutes which can be enjoyed from the comfort of your office or home. It will provide some guidance on how farmers can get involved, new ideas for the day and recommendations from experienced host farmers. You will need to pre-register.

You will hear from:

Annabel Shackleton, LEAF Open Farm Sunday Manager

  • Emma and Sandy Milne, dairy farmers in Brechin who opened their gates for the first time last year
  • Naomi and Ross Bremner, farm Buffalo in Orkney with several events under their belt
  • Rebecca Dawes, Scottish Coordinator and mixed livestock farm hosting nine events to date.

LEAF have now set up a closed facebook group for any current or potential host farmers to join. It is a platform to share ideas, ask questions and gain some tips to help with your event. Request to join.

If you are planning to take part, please remember to register at the website. It is free to sign up and in exchange you are entitled to a range of free resources to help before the day (posters, leaflets) and on the day (road banner, handouts, stickers, etc.). The host handbook will also soon be available. If near the time your circumstances change and you no longer feel you can take part you can cancel your registration.
