Sporting rates

Finance Secretary Derek Mackay has written to Edward Mountain, convener of the Rural Economy and Connectivity Committee with an update in respect of non-domestic rates on shootings and deer forests (sporting rates). Mr Mackay set out that while valuation notices for the majority of properties had been issued, the Assessors continue to work on the methodology and valuation of shootings and deer forests. The assessors have until the end of March 2018 to issue valuation notices.

Robert Shepherd, the lead assessor on sporting rates, presented at the Scottish Land & Estates and Savills Rates Seminar last week. Mr Shepherd updated delegates that the assessors planned to produce a practice note in May and valuations would take place over the summer months.
