SRDP budgets for 2018 announced in Parliament

Answering a Parliamentary Question earlier this week, Fergus Ewing set out the indicative budgets for schemes within the Scotland Rural Development Programme for 2018.

The announcement shows an expected drop in the LFASS budget which is a result of the Scottish Government’s decision not to replace LFASS with the new Areas of Natural Constraint Scheme, but instead to take the option of a 20% reduction in funding to allow the LFASS scheme to continue in the meantime.  This was felt to be preferable to making the decision to introduce the new scheme which might be in place for only a couple of years prior to Brexit.  Other changes show some reduction in the Agri-Environment Climate Scheme which the Government say is in line with likely demand and increases to the Forestry Grant and New Entrants Schemes.  It also shows the return of the Environmental Co-operation Action Fund – details for which are being worked on at the moment.  The full parliamentary question and response can be found here...
