New private water supply regulations

The Water Intended for Human Consumption (Private Supplies) (Scotland) Regulations 2017 have been approved by Parliament and will apply to large supplies (those which are more than 10m³ per day or supply more than 50 persons or supplies a commercial or public activity regardless of volume) as of 27 October 2017. The regulations include a requirement for local authorities to complete a risk assessment of all large supplies at least every 5 years (each initial risk assessment must be completed before 1 January 2017), and the establishment of 56 ‘Supply Zones’ for monitoring purposes.
