Forthcoming Letting Agents Regulations Scotland

RICS qualification
Discussions with the Scottish Government surrounding the RICS qualification (MRICS) and competencies in relation to the forthcoming residential letting agent regulations have been finalised. The MRICS qualification will be considered to have met the qualification requirement for letting agent registration purposes where RICS professionals can evidence the following:

1. MRICS qualification was attained through the Residential pathway;    
2. Qualified in Scotland after 2006, and
3. have undertaken competencies as part of their Assessment of Professional Competence (APC).

Those competencies include:
1. Leasing and Letting
2. Landlord and tenant; or Housing Aid and Advice; or Housing Management and Policy; or Property Management
3. Accounting Principles and Procedures
4. Housing maintenance repairs and improvements;
5. Client care
6. Communication and negotiation
7. Dispute resolution
8. Conduct, rules and ethics
Those who have not covered all of the above competencies as part of their APC, will not have met the minimum training standards for registration, and will need to undertake additional training.
