Amendments made to Forestry and Land Management Bill

The Rural Economy Committee this week considered Stage 2 amendments to the Forestry and Land Management Bill.  There are a substantial number of amendments proposed – 136 in total – and as such it was not possible for the Committee to cover them all in one sitting.  A second session will therefore take place on 13 December.

Of those that were considered, a proposal to make deer management compulsory for forestry owners was not moved.  Also, three sections on the involvement of community bodies in forestry were removed, this includes the possible disposal of land from the national forest estate to community bodies.  However a  compulsory purchase power for land for sustainable development purposes remains in the Bill.
