South of Scotland Golden Eagle Project – Launched

The South of Scotland Golden Eagle Project was launched on Tuesday 12th December by Roseanna Cunningham, Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform.

The project is a partnership of RSPB Scotland, Scottish Land & Estates, Forestry Commission Scotland, Scottish Natural Heritage and Buccleuch, who have funded the project to date and have been working together for more than ten years to bring the project to realisation.
Over the next five years the team will be collecting eagle chicks from the Highlands and Islands in the summer and raising and releasing them as satellite-tagged juveniles in early autumn.

The Project is now seeking new team members to work with local schools, communities, landowners and gamekeepers in Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders to help raise awareness, engage and enthuse local people about golden eagles and their conservation needs.
