Lowland Deer Panel

SNH has now established a lowland deer panel to explore new approaches to deer management in the Scottish lowlands.

The Lowland Deer Panel will examine the complex issues related to deer management in the Scottish lowlands. Its work will contribute to the Scottish Government’s ongoing review of deer management across Scotland.

The panel’s aim is to maximise the benefits of deer for people and ensure that their numbers do not have an impact on conservation, agriculture or road safety. Key issues are likely to include:

the nature of deer impacts in the lowlands

  • the best way to manage deer – including how to work collaboratively
  • the information needed to support good deer management

The Lowland Deer Panel’s web page is now live at

More information will be provided here as the panel’s work develops.
