Laggan Farm tourism open day

Laggan Outdoor in Dumfries and Galloway was the venue for the ‘Agritourism Monitor Farm Re-visited 3 years on’ event organised by Go Rural. Scottish Land & Estates, along with a host of other local SME’s, agencies and interested individuals, attended the event to hear first-hand how the family have diversified their farming business into a top tourist attraction.

Attendees heard from the three brothers running separate businesses on the farm who talked about the crucial succession planning they undertook at the beginning of the process. Further discussions centred around the need to invest in a quality product – particularly in an area where there is already adequate provision of low-cost accommodation for example – and hurdles such as planning and access to suitable staff that need to be overcome in order to meet aspirations.

A tour of the recent additions to the site included a visit to the new ‘snugs’ (self-contained accommodation units) and the magnificent GG’s wedding venue concluded the visit.
