Fisheries Management Scotland – Nurturing the Next Generation - Conference

Earlier this week FMS held their annual conference at the SNH offices in Battleby. The conference brought together a network of freshwater fishery managers, scientific staff, government, agencies and wider stakeholders to exchange information and experiences, and promote collaboration on the protection, conservation and management of our freshwater fish habitats, populations and fisheries.
The program discussed and explored novel and sustainable ways of boosting juvenile production, considered issues impacting our fish and ways to address and mitigate these, and why we must encourage young people to get involved with fish, fisheries and the aquatic environment.
The day outlined 2 overarching objectives which were:
• A need to ensure our young fish stand the best chance in the current challenging
   environmental circumstances
• A need to encourage a lifelong engagement between our young people and our precious
freshwaters, fish and fisheries if our vision is to remain viable.
