Second Series of Peatland ACTION Roadshows

Partnering with NatureScot Peatland ACTION, Scottish Land & Estates will be running a second series of Peatland Roadshows across Scotland between end November 2024 and March 2025.

NatureScot is evolving its approach to supporting peatland restoration in response to a maturing market and the growing demand for support. This called for a new approach to processing NatureScot Peatland ACTION applications which took effect from March 2024. The aim of this series of events is to update landowners and land managers on the NatureScot Peatland ACTION programme – the changes to assessing and funding applications and the developing private finance market for peatland restoration projects.

Peatland Action logoPeatland ACTION is a national partnership programme to restore peatlands across Scotland for the many benefits to both people and nature. It includes NatureScot, Forestry and Land Scotland, Scottish Water, and Cairngorms and Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Parks. Peatland ACTION funding comes through the Scottish Government’s Climate Change Plan for net zero, with a commitment to invest £250 million to support the restoration of 250,000 hectares of peatlands by 2030.

Peatland restoration is a key component in the suite of nature-based solutions to the twin crises of climate change and nature loss and a rapidly expanding area of work across Scotland. Peatland ACTION provides funding, support and advice to deliver on-the-ground peatland restoration through a network of partner organisations. Over 75,000 hectares of previously damaged peatland habitat have benefited directly from restoration activities by Peatland ACTION.

The roadshow series will consist of four, free in-person events taking place across our regions – a combination of presentation and discussion elements.

The aim of these events is to give landowners and managers the information they need to make informed decisions about future peatland restoration projects, address any unanswered questions and discuss barriers to moving forwards.

We are delighted to announce details of the first two events:

Tuesday 26 November (09:30-13:30) - The Strathdearn, Tomatin, Inverness

Monday 9 December (13:30-17:00) - The Barracks Conference Centre, Stirling

Two further events are planned in the Peebles and Fort William areas in early 2025. Full details of all events, programmes and speakers will be published as they are confirmed
