Farming

Agriculture

Agriculture is the backbone to many rural areas. We work to ensure the sustainability of farming as an economic activity producing food and drink products but also to enhance the provision of social and environmental outcomes from the sector.

New ideas and experiences are key to the success and viability of Scottish farming and we support opportunities for young people and new entrants to work and progress in the industry.  Leasing, contract farming, share farming and other similar vehicles provide a range of options for members who may be looking to change the way the land is managed, whilst also making land available to the wider industry.

Crofting

Crofting is a type of land tenure and farming system which is unique to certain areas of Scotland. SLE supports a sustainable and simplified crofting system, which is well organised and well administered.

The Crofting Commission regulates and promotes the interests of crofting in Scotland.
