My time as Communications Intern for Scottish Land & Estates
In this blog, our Communications Intern Allan MacAskill discusses his time with SLE. Allan outlines what he's gained from the opportunity and shares some of his personal highlights.
My summer internship at Scottish Land & Estates has been nothing short of transformative. It's not just about the tasks I completed - it's about the invaluable experience and personal growth I've gained during my time with this remarkable organisation.
From day one I felt like an integral part of the team. The sense of belonging and camaraderie among the staff was especially noteworthy.
What stood out the most during my internship was the opportunity to witness firsthand the positive impact that SLE members have on the rural sector and the communities they serve. From nominations for the Helping it Happen awards to content in the pages of LandBusiness Magazine, I’ve seen how SLE uses various different methods to highlight the successes of its members and to distribute its key messages.
Working on various projects and initiatives over the past few months has allowed me to collaborate with a diverse group of professionals who are passionate about what they do. Their dedication and expertise is inspiring, and I was fortunate to learn from some of the best in the field.
Beyond the professional growth, SLE also provided me with a platform to explore my creativity. Whether it was crafting engaging content, designing printed materials, or participating in the Royal Highland Show, I was encouraged to think outside the box and push my boundaries.
The weekly all-staff meetings, whether in person or online, were more than just gatherings - they were opportunities to connect, share insights, and feel like a valued member of the SLE family.
My internship at SLE wasn't just a summer job - it was an experience that deepened my understanding of the sector, allowed me to develop new skills, and has ignited a passion for the work we in the countryside do. I'm leaving with a profound sense of gratitude for the opportunity and the people who made the past twelve weeks unforgettable.
As I move forward in my career, I carry with me the lessons, memories, and the sense of purpose that SLE has instilled in me. Thank you to everyone at SLE for a summer filled with personal and professional growth, meaningful connections, and a lasting enthusiasm for the rural sector.
