The SLE Annual Legal & Taxation Event will be held on Wednesday 27 November at Perth Racecourse, with Johnston Carmichael and Turcan Connell providing taxation and legal expertise.

Always popular, this event offers members the opportunity to hear from professional experts and gain an understanding of the latest taxation developments impacting rural businesses. Johnston Carmichael and Turcan Connell will provide detailed presentations of particular relevance to SLE members.

Event Highlights

1. Case Study: Agricultural Tenancies A joint session by Turcan Connell and Johnston Carmichael, exploring the practical, commercial and tax aspects of relinquishment in agricultural tenancies.

2. Budget Review A detailed analysis of the post-budget landscape which will address issues of interest for farmers and landowners in light of actual or potential changes to tax policy under the new Labour government. Closer to home the speakers will also touch on the fiscal landscape in Scotland currently and how that might impact decision making come the Scottish Government budget towards the end of this calendar year.

3. Litigation Update An overview of recent and relevant cases from Turcan Connell, providing insights into current litigation trends within the tax regime.

4. Looking to 2025 & Beyond Alex Docherty from Johnston Carmichael will hold a forward-looking session covering HMRC’s approach to Landed Estates, the Making Tax Digital Roadmap, what needs to be done pre-5 April 2025 for those owning Furnished Holding Lets, developments in Natural Capital, and how Labour’s Business Roadmap may impact the sector.
