Cost of Living Act – Implications for landlords - Brodies LLP

Clare Dunlop and Donald Muir will discuss the implications of the Cost of Living legislation on the ability of landlords to increase their rent and recover possession of their property.

Delivering nature based solutions for landowners with real life Scottish examples, Ewan Harris, Head of Estate Management, Scotland, Savills

With the launch of the Savills Nature-Based Solutions research report, Ewan will present the key emerging themes, along with sharing local examples of how this is being put into practice across Scotland including river and peatland restoration.

Implications of the Hunting with Dogs (Scotland) Bill for land and wildlife management, Tim Baynes, Scottish Land & Estates

On 25th January this important Bill was passed by Scottish Parliament, which could have major impact on how land is managed in Scotland, particularly in terms of  hunting, fox control and rough shooting. This session will also update on ongoing work with Government on licensing for use of more than two dogs.  Also, to give more information on guidance being developed by SLE and others to ensure practitioners stay within the law in a range of situations.

• Scottish Muirburn Training – The First Step, Calum Kippen & Iain Hepburn, Bright Spark Burning Techniques Limited.  This workshop will cover: The future of prescribed burning in Scotland - Muirburn Practitioner Foundation course and what it means to SLE. How we can help you - Training, advisory and consultancy on muirburn. Wildfire risk and mitigation - Fuel load, climate change and what can landowners do about it.
• Compulsory Purchase & Wayleave Negotiations, Brodies LLP    This workshop will look at a range of compulsory purchase powers and provide pointers on how best to protect property and business interests, secure fair compensation, and negotiate wayleave terms.
• Explore the key emerging themes from the National Planning Framework (NPF4) and the impacts they will have on landowners in Scotland. Richard Thompson, Director, Strategic Land, Scotland & Philip Graham, Associate Director, Planning, Savills   This workshop will delve deeper into the proposed NPF4, focusing on the key themes and the impacts they may have on landowners in Scotland. Setting out key actions that need to be taken forward over the short and medium term which will assist in shaping Scotland’s landscape
• Agricultural Tenants & Landlords Working together for Environmental Benefits, Dr Bob McIntosh CBE, Tenant Farming Commissioner.  We would like to run a workshop session with land managers on what is the current situation and options for working with tenants farmers to enable environmental land management to take place. While we are aware this may change in the coming years, we feel it is important that the current position it understood and that landlords and tenants don’t wait for future legislation when positive action could take place now.
