Maximising the Margins

15th May 2019, Assembly Rooms, George Street, Edinburgh

Sponsored by    Barclays Logo

‘Maximising the margins’ – the theme of this year’s conference – will explore land use in our more challenging and fragile areas. We will look in depth at how rural business can rise to the challenge of increasing social, economic and environmental benefits.

The conference will examine how we maximise:-

  • Productivity on marginal land
  • Opportunities for marginal communities
  • Environmental benefits of field margins
  • Rural business profit margins.

Land-based businesses continue to face the potential of a very different future. As well as adapting to fundamental changes resulting from Brexit, our sector will have to address long-term issues such as lack of profitability in farming, an ageing workforce and poor connectivity. We also must adapt to play an even bigger part in helping big issues such as climate change and rural depopulation.

We will hear from businesses who are leading the way in the latest industry innovations and speakers will share insights into current and emerging best practice.   We’ll also have a thought-provoking panel debate that will question established views and prompt discussion about alternative approaches.

We are delighted to be joined by Mairi Gougeon MSP, Minister for Rural Affairs and Natural Environment, to deliver our keynote speech. We will then hear from a range of influential speakers, policy decision-makers and rural business owners throughout the conference.

This event is open to anyone with an interest in rural Scotland, but especially rural business leaders and senior decision-makers, providing an unrivalled opportunity to learn and network with other professionals from the sector.
