Please join us for an informative meeting that will elaborate on the future role of the South of Scotland Enterprise, the new economic development agency for the region. We will hear from Professor Russel Griggs, who has been appointed chairman of the Enterprise, on the latest developments and how the new agency will operate.

•The Scottish Government is establishing a new enterprise agency for the South of Scotland covering the council areas of Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders.  South of Scotland Enterprise will bring a fresh approach to economic development responding to the opportunities and challenges in the south, working with businesses and communities across the area to drive inclusive and sustainable economic growth;

•The South of Scotland Enterprise Act 2019 sets out the legal framework and the Scottish Government has been taking forward work to establish the new agency which will take up its duties on 1 April 2020;

•In advance of the new agency, the Scottish Government established the South of Scotland Economic Partnership to help pave the way for the new agency;

•Professor Russel Griggs was appointed by Scottish Ministers as Chair Designate of SOSE on 26 July 2019.  He is also chair of the South of Scotland Economic Partnership;

•The meetings with Scottish Land Estates in January and February provide members a great opportunity to hear from Professor Griggs about the work of the South of Scotland Economic Partnership and progress towards the new agency and to help shape the sort of activities it could undertake to support the economies of the South.
