Dunglass, located at Cockburnspath, Scottish Borders, is a 3,500-acre rural business which has continued under the stewardship of the Usher family since 1919. In 2009 the current proprietors, Joyce and Simon Usher, started an award-winning Wedding and Event Business hosting around sixty events per annum offering a significant benefit to the local economy, whilst also employing several full and part time staff throughout the year. Having recently been voted Scotland’s best wedding and event venue of the year at both the Prestige and Confetti awards, they are continuing to evolve as one of the country’s most prestigious venues.

In addition to the ongoing success of their events business, Dunglass is continually looking to diversify into other areas such as renewables schemes.

Participants will learn about the overall approach of Dunglass Estate and have the opportunity to see and discuss a number of aspects of the events business and future aspirations of the estate including:

  • The benefits and challenges of operating a wedding and events business and what makes that a successful proposition, including ongoing plans for the future. An informal discussion and presentation with the Directors and Events team at Dunglass.
  • Providing a range of luxury accommodation
  • Plans to enhance the Courtyard area as well converting the Walled Garden into a diverse corporate event and catering space using local produce. Learn how they are navigating the planning system. Presentation by gfivethree Architects
  • Estate Overview and presentation from Savills on the current rural climate and trends

The Walk and Talk will also look at:

  • Rural diversification and other opportunities currently being explored by the Estate.
  • Community engagement, rural diversification trends, environment schemes and the new single farm payment plan

Details of the full agenda and guest speakers to be confirmed very shortly.

Format of the event:

  • We will be walking around the venue and Walled Garden with presentations given in the Pavillion. The distance walked is relatively short and easy going.
  • A BBQ lunch will be provided at the end of the event in the Stretch Tent Area. Food is provided by the Edinburgh Catering Company
