Join us for a day of exploring some of what the Island of Bute has to offer.
Starting off the morning with a hopefully smooth sail across to Rothesay from Wemyss Bay, we will be collected by coach to take us to Mount Stuart House for a whistlestop tour of its incredible history.
We will then be served a wonderful lunch provided by the chefs at Mount Stuart House who will wow us with amazing local produce.
Following on from lunch we will pop back onto the coach for a short drive to Bute Sawmill where we will get an inside look at the timber that is grown, sawn, treated and sold on the island itself.
The sawmill also provides great apprenticeship programs as well as sustainable biomass pellets and is currently going through an expansion to include a purpose-built firewood shed.
After another short coach trip, we will arrive at the Lochend Development to look at the recently built passive houses. A small, sustainable and eco-friendly community for 10 families overlooking Loch Ascog. The houses have been built to Passivhaus Low Energy Standards and use around 90% less energy than standard UK buildings.
Our final stop will be Bute Yard, a collaborative project developed between Mount Stuart Trust and the Isle of Bute Gin Company to create a flexible commercial space in the heart of Rothesay. It works closely with island businesses hosting a gin distillery, bar, pop-up café facilities and a flexible event space. This is set to complement long-standing local events such as the Bute Highland Games, Bute Fest and other community-led activities.
From here, we will return by coach to the ferry terminal at Rothesay to catch the 4pm ferry back to the mainland.
