Muir of Dinnet is a privately owned National Nature Reserve managed by NatureScot situated close to the village of Dinnet in Aberdeenshire. The reserve extends 1166 hectares from the River Dee to Culbean Hill and encompasses a wide range of habitats including dry heath, raised bog, woodland, and two lochs: Loch Kinord and Loch Davan.

This Walk & Talk will centre around Loch Kinord, a very busy visitor ‘hot spot’, and ways in which NatureScot and Dinnet Estate have been trying to manage for visitors and promote responsible and sustainable access.  It will be a chance to find out what measures they have put in place, particularly for water-borne access and how successful they are proving to be.  Dinnet Estate have also very recently opened the new Clarack Car Park with support from the Cairngorms National Park Authority.  Find out more about how this came about and future plans for the site.

We will be hosted by Edward Humphrey, Dinnet Estate with contributions from:

  • Kirstin Main, Reserve Manager, Muir of Dinnet National Nature Reserve
  • Colin Simpson, Head of Visitor Services and Active Travel, Cairngorms National Park Authority
  • David Murray, On Call Support Watch Commander, NSDA; Braemar, Balmoral, Ballater, Aboyne, Banchory, Alford, Strathdon; Crew Commander / Ballater Fire Station; Scottish Fire & Rescue Service

This event is free of charge to SLE Members, but booking is essential through the SLE website.
