Walk & Talk: Peatland Restoration and Woodland Creation, Tulchan Estate Glen Isla, Angus

Join us on 8 March from 10:00 for this event, which will showcase the largest peatland project to be undertaken in Angus and is part of a estate wide environmental and biodiversity strategy which must work alongside the estate’s sporting activities.

Delegates meet at Tulchan Lodge for refreshments and outline brief on what is this estate’s holistic environmental eco-restoration project working alongside their sporting activity and deer management responsibilities.

Car sharing to two separate nearby stands.  Walking is at absolute minimum to both making this event incredibly accessible.

Stand 1:

Peatland restoration using wave damming/zippering technique (thought to be more robust against deer damage), erosion trial plot. Discuss pre-application, application process, the technique and the Peatland code. Easy access to plant operators undertaking restoration work and Emma Kerr of Scottish Woodlands to discuss the administrative process.  This is the largest peatland restoration project to be undertaken in Angus.

Stand 2:

Native woodland restoration – how the estate is planting around 100 hectares of native woodland as a ‘second phase’ of woodland restoration around Tulchan. Discuss the project planning and administrative process, the constraints of working in the National park area including wildlife and birdlife considerations and the extensive work toward a survey programme. Emma Kerr can talk about the Woodland Carbon Code as well as this is the financial drivers for the estate.
