bScottish Land & Estates, in partnership with Buccleuch Estates, invites SLE Members to attend our first South East Walk and Talk event for 2022 at Bowhill Farming Ltd.

Hosted Farm Manager Sion Williams, this informal Walk & Talk event will allow attendees to hear how digital technology is playing a valuable role at Bowhill. From increased productivity, reducing risks and creating a sustainable future; Bowhill is a great example of how enhancing technology can help manage animal health which can help focus on manpower to save time and money. 

Bowhill Farming Ltd is a 6,555 hectare mixed hill/upland enterprise forming part of the wider Borders Estate located in the South of Scotland. Enterprises include a herd of premium health Aberdeen Angus cows, a flock of Scottish Blackfaced breeding ewes, a large free-range poultry unit, as well as a small amount of arable cropping grown mainly for stock feed.  

Bowhill is an active partner in a number of research projects and is one of the 32 Agri-EPI Centre Satellite Farms which is embracing technologies such as satellite imagery looking at pasture levels, cattle boluses recording cattle temperatures and using water drinking weighers.

  • Soil Health

 

Event Format –

  • 1.30pm – Arrival (Tea & Coffee).  Welcome and Introduction from Sion Williams, Farm Manager
  • 2.00pm – Farm Walk
  • 3.00pm – Q&A Session – Sion Williams, Gavin Dick Agri-EPI Centre’s satellite farm network, Paul Richardson (SLE Agriculture & Climate Change Policy Advisor).
  • 3.30pm – Close
