Walk & Talk: Rotational Grazing and Bracken Control At Southannan Estate

Members are invited to Southannan Estate, Fairlie, North Ayrshire to see how the estate has approached rotational grazing over the years for increased biodiversity and improved land management.

Farm manager Jordan Hibberd will take members through the processes and challenges of grazing livestock on an estate that has varying terrains, and give a demonstration on how they use mob grazing. We’ll also hear about how the estate is trialling using a small number of Luing cattle to try and control the amount of bracken on parts of Southannan that are almost inaccessible to machinery. 

Wildlife Estates Scotland Project Manager, Neil Gunn, will join us to give an overview of the WES process and how Southannan's approach to the accreditation scheme could be used as an example to follow. 

Members are invited to stay on for a lunch of soup and Southannan lamb and beefburgers from 12.30pm.
