From humble beginnings, Active Kids Adventure Park has evolved into a sought-after destination for families throughout the region. It offers educational play for children up to the age of 12, complemented by a comprehensive restaurant and kitchen that serves wholesome homemade meals for all to savor. The newly constructed internal timber play area provides an enchanting experience, crafted from natural timbers. It grants children an exceptional chance to engage in imaginative play, alongside the existing outdoor play zones. This structure harmoniously integrates into the rustic surroundings, presenting a striking and exquisite visual presence.
The architectural design of the building was conceived by an architect, and local contractors, Algo Construction, executed the construction. Mill Architects collaborated closely with Algo Construction to realize a landmark structure that incorporates sustainable heating and natural materials. The finish both inside and out attains a commendable standard, evident in the accompanying photographs. The building coexists harmoniously within the rural backdrop and will continue to mature and weather gracefully, solidifying its role as an integral part of the farm. The parking arrangement has undergone a comprehensive redesign, now accommodating coach parking and a spacious overflow area—elements previously absent. Within the interior, the restaurant's layout was thoughtfully planned to mitigate noise from the play area. To achieve this, creative cladding using high-quality Akupanel was employed for sound absorption. The choice of tables, chairs, bench seating hues, and wall colours was thoughtfully coordinated with the building's overall aesthetic. The flooring presents a blend of polished concrete and timber-look vinyl, with the latter delineating circulation pathways. The play equipment, fashioned by Greenspan Limited, melds seamlessly with the natural timbers, endowing the building with an animating vitality. Additionally, an expansive outdoor decked seating area, directly accessible from the restaurant, offers patrons the opportunity to relish captivating views from a southerly perspective.
Beyond its aesthetic allure, the new building prioritizes accessibility and proudly houses a Changing Places facility, catering to disabled visitors and their caregivers. This facility adheres to current British Standards and guidance from governmental bodies. The Changing Places restroom offers sanitary accommodations for individuals with intricate disabilities, accompanied by one or two assistants. Those lacking independent mobility or sitting stability benefit from features such as a ceiling track hoist for seamless transfers between wheelchair, WC, and adult-sized changing bench.
Unwavering dedication to ethical and environmental principles lies at the heart of the enterprise. The sustainability journey commenced with an independently verified carbon assessment and reduction strategy in 2015, culminating in an 87% emissions decrease within a year. A subsequent audit and action plan in 2021, necessitated by heightened production, yielded a 97% reduction (equivalent to 463 tonnes) since 2016. Noteworthy initiatives encompass the installation of a renewable power plant utilizing wood from local farms, innovative waste repurposing for animal bedding, adoption of fully recyclable packaging, Sedex membership, and employee-centric adjustments like compressed workweeks and electrified delivery fleets. Additional measures span LED and motion-sensing lighting, and progressive farming approaches, exemplified by wildflower borders.
Prior to development, a robust demand was ascertained among local residents for the adventure park, often reaching capacity during summer. Coupled with a neighbouring housing project, the enhanced facilities create an appealing hub for local and extended patrons. Situated within walking distance of Stanley town, the facility provides bicycle parking and future-proofing for potential vehicle charging. Local visitors relish the expansive dining area and outdoor decking that overlooks the picturesque Perthshire countryside. A longstanding rapport with local schools endures, enriching young minds with educational play and fostering connections with rural life. The addition of an indoor facility ensures year-round operation, bolstering income and securing employment throughout the calendar. This Phase 1 endeavour prioritizes inclusivity, local economy support, and agri-tourism promotion, with future developments poised to build upon these foundations.
