The Buffalo Farm - Mozzarella and Much More

Steve Mitchell started a fledgling buffalo herd 12 years ago after investing some inheritance money. Since then the business has grown steadily off the back of selling buffalo meat through his on-farm butchery and farm shop.

Having become established as a meat wholesaling business, Steve has taken steps recently to radically change his business. The main project involves significant investment in a dairy buffalo herd, milking plant and processing factory for production of buffalo mozzarella and other cheese/dairy products.

Following his recent media exposure on This Farming Life, Steve has noticed his social media following explode with a UK wide following. This has encouraged him to trial open days for families to visit his farm and see the buffalo and other animals that he has at Boglilly.

Following a successful trial of free open days last year, he is holding a series of open weekends where farm tours take place at regular intervals - there are waiting lists for places. Steve sees the benefit of the educational aspect of this to his and other farming businesses.
