This investment will give local contractors and agricultural businesses access to vital resources without having to travel huge distances in the supply chain. The sustainable biomass supplier and timber products specialist has installed a new high-tech preservation chamber that will supply locally produced timber to companies requiring treated and stress-tested products. The company has commissioned the 5,500-gallon vessel, which processes more than 440 cubic feet of timber per treatment, increasing the company's current annual output and broadening its product range to further invest in the circular economy.
The company, which originated on a farm in the Strath of Halladale in Sutherland, is able to guarantee security of supply to its customers following the strategic purchase of a substantial area of forest in the north-east to increase its resilience to market shocks. Previously, local companies requiring this type of timber product had to source from suppliers located hundreds of miles away. The new plant is the latest initiative by GMG Energy as it invests heavily to reduce its carbon footprint and dependence on fossil fuels. It has just spent over £70,000 installing a 100-panel solar array on the roof of its main production shed, which will in time become its main source of energy.
