Nominee Summary
Oliver's Highland Pet Crematorium owned by Lisa Lugton started in September 2025. It allows pets to be cremated locally with ashes returned to owners within 2-3 days. Previously, the majority of pets would have been bagged, frozen and sent once a week to the central belt for cremation. The new crematorium allows people to have a dignified cremation for their pets and to be reunited with them quickly, allowing them to grieve. Lisa continuously goes above and beyond for pets in the Highlands and definitely deserves to win.
What makes your nominee stand out?
Lisa stands out due to her compassion and empathy for people who are losing their pet. She continously goes above and beyond to help people, often late at night and on the weekend when she is supposed to be closed. She cares deeply and has helped so many people.
Supporting the local community
Oliver's crematorium is unique to other crematoriums as its a really personal and Compassionate service. Lisa just by her caring nature helps families during unimaginable grief. The biggest challenge has been getting local vets to use her cremation services, because they significantly profit from using larger crematoria in the central belt and mark up the cost these large corporate owned crematoria charge. Lisa has overcome this by doing exceptional marketing and also just by providing such a kind, caring and Compassionate service. Word of mouth has meant her business is growing and more and more people are using her.
Maintaining high ethical/environmental standards
Lisa works with local businesses and has sourced a local pottery company to make her urns. She uses local companies to provide memorabilia such as jewellery and clay paw prints. She donates 5% to local animal charities munlochy animal aid and Highland wildlife rescue. She has referred veterinary business to me and helped me to start up my independent veterinary home visit euthanasia service. Her support has been invaluable to me which could have been otherwise impossible due to corporate take over.
