Will and Henrietta Callander are located outside Pathhead in Midlothian, at Preston Hall farmhouse, and have converted its disused space into workshops to host a variety of businesses under its name of Rosemains Steading.
From their smaller 300 square foot workshop spaces to ones which could fit a double decker bus, the spaces provided are dedicated workshops, a community courtyard, and office hot desks. Along with shared kitchens and toilets, completed in 2021, these spaces allow different solutions to meet business’ needs and for them to host various types of events.
Originally used as farm storage, the converted barns and outbuildings at Preston Hall are over 200 years old; it was a huge effort to renovate the space in a safe and effective way, without causing any damage to its original frame, to create functional offices.
There are still limitations to what type of business that can utilise the space at Rosemains efficiently especially due to the location of the site and what may be the demands of local people. However, there are currently nine residents in the workspaces ranging from coffee companies to photography and botanicals.
The modernisation at Preston Hall has allowed the farming community to enhance its resources and provide assistance to local businesses through the provision of workspaces, which otherwise may not have been available. These flexible workspaces at the Steading are fully powered with electricity and Wi-Fi, with hopes to future proof the space as much as possible.
Rosemains is perfectly located within quiet countryside roads and farmland to escape unwanted noise and distractions from the world. With an ever-growing realisation of how powerful being surrounded by green space and nature is, Rosemains is providing companies this added benefit.
