Nominee Summary
Claire McCall is a local veterinary surgeon from Sutherland who has set up an independent mobile home visit euthanasia and veterinary service across rural North East Scotland. I want to be able to bring veterinary services directly to the doors of my community and help people and pets who wouldn't get a vet visit in rural Sutherland especially.
Nominee – Qualities
I set up Rover's Pet Euthanasia to ensure that families losing their pet were able to do it in the comfort of their own home, no matter how rural they are. Corporatisation of veterinary practices has resulted in a loss of community vets to our area and I feel that remote and rural areas deserve to have a local, Compassionate vet in their time of need.
Nominee - Sectoral Impact
I set up my own veterinary business to fill a gap in our remote and rural area. From Sutherland originally, I always knew eventually I'd want to serve the local community. I have been qualified for 14 years as a vet and consistently go above and beyond, working all hours and often 7 days a week. I regularly travel to rural parts such as Tongue, Durness etc and have spent hours helping elderly people who are unable to get to a vet practice. I am contacted multiple times a day for advice and feel I have been a constant support to my local community with all things veterinary related. I have dedicated my life to my career and community, and am very proud and honoured to be able to work in such a beautiful part of the world with amazing people every day.
Nominee - Going the extra mile
I consistently go the extra mile for my patients and clients because I just love helping people and my job is the best job in the world! One particular case, was on a Sunday where a 90 year old lady who was blind and deaf was worried about her dog. She did not have transport. In the end I spent 7 hours with her and her dog, diagnosed kidney failure, helped her dog to pass peacefully and then drove her to the crematorium with her dog. I did not ask for any money for this as I just wanted to help her. My goal is to try reach folk in rural Sutherland to access veterinary care, especially those people who are elderly and isolated. My business has only started in the last 2 months and already I have helped so many people, who are so grateful.
