Ruberslaw Wild Woods Camping encourages people to connect with nature while they stay in the Scottish Borders. Their ethos is for tents only camping within a walled garden and surrounding woodland, with a feeling of calm and relaxation from the moment you arrive through to your departure. No cars are allowed on site except in the car park and people walk to their accommodation and or pitch. There are no playgrounds as they believe the great outdoors is the biggest playground of all and they encourage good countryside behaviour in their clients.
Promoting wildlife sightings, they are very ecologically aware. They offer homegrown fruit and veg from the walled garden, and have full amenities free at source. The business also supports local business through products sold in shop and sign posting campers to various eateries, visitor sites etc. in the region.
They are a family run business on a small estate looking for innovative ways of diversifying to enable them to hold on to the estate. Last year the safari tents were upgraded with new equipment enabling better refrigeration when out in the wilds of the woods, and this year they have added lockable bike sheds; a new digital welcome guide; and increased the number of electrical sockets in the communal hub.
There is a woodland programme of felling and planting enabling the future of the wilds woods to be secure, and they have upgraded the access for guests with improved pathways through woodlands, whilst maintaining the feeling of the environment. These small changes have greatly improved the positive feel for the clients which adds to the overall rallying feel.
2022 marks the 10th anniversary of Ruberslaw Wild Woods Camping. To celebrate, they will be planting 10,000 trees
