The Woman in Wellies podcast deserves recognition because it brings something fresh, vital, and long-overdue to the rural media landscape: a platform dedicated to celebrating the voices and contributions of women in rural Scotland. The inspiration behind the podcast came from a simple but powerful vision — to inspire and encourage women across rural Scotland to celebrate their success, recognise their impact, and provide a voice for the invaluable work they do. Too often, rural women’s stories go untold. I created this podcast to change that. Season One laid the foundation, but Season Two took a bold step forward — launching with an educational episode on legacy and succession planning making clear that this platform is about real value and real change. With nearly 20,000 downloads and an engaged online community of over 3,500, the impact has been far greater than I ever imagined. It hasn’t come without challenges. Gaining traction in a crowded digital space, building an audience from the ground up, and having the confidence to put myself out there as a solo creator were all significant hurdles. But the response from listeners — who feel seen, heard, and supported — has made every step worth it. What makes this work stand out is its authenticity. Each episode shares a unique and honest story from a rural woman — from business leaders to community changemakers — and helps reshape how rural Scotland is perceived. It’s not just about farming; it’s about innovation, resilience, creativity, and connection. Beyond the digital space, the podcast has fostered in-person community, created new support networks, and opened up meaningful conversations. Through sponsorships and collaborations, the project is growing sustainably without losing its heart. This is more than a podcast — it's a movement to uplift and empower rural women across Scotland. That’s why I believe The Woman in Wellies Podcast deserves recognition.
