Hannah Budge

Nominee Summary

Hannah first appeared on our screens on This Farming Life with her sisters in 2019 - they run the farm while Hannah helped out when home from uni. she attended Aberdeen Uni and then Newcastle Uni where she obtained MA in Geography, Masters in Food and Rural Development Research & Doc of Philosophy PhD in Rural Sociology. She received academic awards and during her Phd provided invaluable support to the Scottish Women In Agriculture Taskforce of which I( was a member.  She now works at the James Hutton Institute on the land reform research project

Hannah is a strong advocate for all things rural and combines first hand knowledge with passion and academic expertise to provide a really well rounded contribution to rural policy and research. She is always positive and fiercely committed to improving access for women in the rural sector.

Nominee - Sectoral Impact

Hannah, along with her sisters, have helped inspire young women to enter and thrive within the rural sector. The research projects she has been involved in have helped make fundamental changes to agricultural and rural policy and practice. the support she provided to the women in agriculture taskforce was invaluable and contributed to the success of the project - especially in reaching young women. Hannah was also involved in the grass ceiling project which seeks to ensure equality in rural and agricultural innovation and practice.

Nominee - Going the extra mile

Her pursuit of excellence is what makes Hannah stand out - as demonstrated by her academic awards and her approach in general. She always has a positive attitude and seeks to bring people together to work towards a common goal. she isn't afraid to challenge and ask difficult questions. She is currently working on an international land reform symposium which will help with European knowledge exchange on rural issues.
