Robyn Board

Two years ago, Robyn started working at Parklea Farm, a decision which has been nothing short of transformative both on a personal and professional level. Growing up in central Glasgow, no one could predict that Robyn’s career trajectory would see her working fields on a tractor and helping to birth calves. Robyn has bridged the gap between the urban and rural environment, and pushed herself beyond the limits of what she thought she could achieve.

Robyn genuinely loves working with cows, lovingly referred to as her “Lindas”. Whether she’s helping one cow give birth, or freeing another that has trapped itself in a fence, Robyn approaches her work with care and enthusiasm. She is also well aware that they are not pets and treats the animals with respect, recognising their purpose to produce milk. Robyn's commitment to her career has seen her gain her tractor driving licence, which is something she is particularly proud of. Working on a farm takes commitment, and with her days regularly starting at 5am, these early starts are a far cry from what she’d experienced as a receptionist. At only 25 years old, this commitment has helped her form a strong work ethic well beyond her years. Looking to the future, Robyn hopes to start her own business, with a focus on not only dairy production but also her passion for horses.

In addition to her work ethic, Robyn is charismatic and a notable presence at all the rural shows, including the Royal Highland Show and the Ayr Country Show. Robyn also works on bridging the gap between an infamously reclusive industry by showcasing her work on TikTok. Regularly amassing several thousand views, Robyn is slowly growing a following on the platform. This is especially important at a time when farming, and the rural sector broadly, needs to appeal to younger audiences authentically, to inspire potential future farmers.

Robyn’s background sets her apart from most and has secured her role through grit and determination. Knowing that she has had to prove herself, Robyn is happy to work anti-social hours and must be encouraged to take holidays! Such is her commitment to her role, her employer, and to the sector, Robyn has refused to let barriers like gender, class or upbringing stand in her way.
