Best in the Field – The Scottish Country Sports Tourism Awards 2023
General NewsThe Scottish Country Sports Tourism Awards were held on Saturday 1st of July at the GWCT Scottish Game Fair, recognising providers of country sports who are going the extra mile to deliver exceptional experiences to sporting clients.
The awards, presented on the Scottish Land & Estates stand, recognised the exceptional contributions of estates, sporting agencies and innovators of country sports tourism in Scotland. The event firmly demonstrated the sector’s value to Scotland’s rural economy.
Dr Simon Wright, chairman of Country Sport Scotland, opened the ceremony, emphasising the importance of the awards. He underscored their significance in recognising the efforts of those who have gone above and beyond in their contributions to the sector.
Neil Christison, Visit Scotland Regional Director, highlighted the significant contribution of country sports to Scotland's wider tourism industry, and the potential for future growth based on the latest tourism trends. Heather McViegh, CEO of the Officers Association Scotland and sponsor of the awards, presented the awards to the deserving winners.
Ross Ewing, Director of Moorland at Scottish Land & Estates and member of the judging panel for the awards, said: “Scottish Land & Estates were absolutely delighted to support this year’s inaugural Scottish Country Sports Tourism Awards, which provided a perfect platform to recognise those who are going above and beyond to deliver for rural Scotland.
“Despite the challenges being posed by the Scottish Government’s legislative agenda, these awards have highlighted the adaptability, initiative and entrepreneurial spirit of country sports tourism businesses across Scotland.
“The calibre of applications was exceedingly high, and we were so pleased to be able to honour three winners and three highly commended entries on the day. Best Sporting Estate 2023: Logiealmond Estate
Logiealmond Estate clinched the award for Best Sporting Estate 2023. The estate has set a high standard in land management, collaboration and exceptional sporting opportunities. The estate's dedication to customer service and significant contribution to the local economy was also recognised.
Best Sporting Agency 2023: South Ayrshire Stalking
South Ayrshire Stalking took home the award for Best Sporting Agency. The agency is committed to delivering outstanding sporting experiences in Scotland, with collaboration and local engagement at the heart of its operation. Their exceptional customer service and track record of delivering memorable experiences were acknowledged by the judging panel.
2023’s Sporting Innovator: The Wild Order Ltd
The Wild Order Ltd was honoured as 2023’s Sporting Innovator. Their unique and innovative operation has made a significant impact in introducing new audiences to country sports. The Wild Order Ltd has demonstrated a deep passion for the sector, trailblazing new routes to success and collaborating to deliver exceptional experiences and masterclasses that span the full journey from field to fork.

Benmore Estate
Benmore Estate, the Best Sporting Estate 2023 runner-up, was highly commended for their outstanding efforts. Their exceptional sporting opportunities, investment in quality accommodation, and commitment to biodiversity and customer service have made them a strong contender for best sporting estate.
International Hunting Scotland
International Hunting Scotland, the runner-up for the Best Sporting Agency 2023, was highly commended for their excellent service in the sector. Their diverse sporting opportunities, unique offerings and commitment to outstanding experiences have made them a leading agency in the sector.
Loch Ness Rural Communities
Loch Ness Rural Communities, the runner-up for 2023’s Sporting Innovator, was highly commended for its innovative approach to educating and engaging new audiences. Their interpretation of the #EstatesThatEducate programme saw several young people undergo an enriching educational experience to understand, appreciate and explore the value of country sports tourism in and around Loch Ness.
