Early payment of farm support welcomed

Press Release

Early payment of farm support has been welcomed by Scottish Land & Estates.

The Scottish Government has announced that it was introducing a revised timetable for payments in response to the inflationary pressures being felt by food producers.

Stephen Young, Head of Policy at Scottish Land & Estates, said:

“Farming businesses have been hard hit by rising input costs and we’re pleased the Scottish Government has responded by bringing forward the start of payments, which will help to ease the pressure on farm cash flow.

“We have been talking to government and stakeholders about the measures that can be taken to avoid reaching a crisis point we can’t return from, and this is something we first suggested in April. Earlier payments will help but as an industry, we need to ensure businesses prepare as best they can for the tough period ahead, along with measures to reduce costs of production where possible.”
