More than a quarter of a century of service in rural business sector recognised

Rural business organisation Scottish Land & Estates is honouring one of its most long-serving employees,  Jane Laing,  who is now retiring after 26 years of service.

Mrs Laing, from Galashiels, began her career with Scottish Land & Estates in 1999 as a Secretary to the Legal and Public Affairs Co-ordinator. She was appointed as Communications Officer in 2006 and then Events and Publications Co-ordinator in 2015, overseeing the annual conference and all other national shows as well as member communications and the organisation’s well-respected magazine, Land Business.

Jane Laing said: “I’ve loved every minute of my career and couldn’t have wished for a nicer group of people to work with. The organisation has changed beyond all recognition since I first started – even the name has changed twice! One of the great benefits of working in the rural business sector is the variety -- no two days are the same. I probably won’t know what to do with myself when I retire and I will miss my friends and colleagues enormously.”

Sarah-Jane Laing, chief executive of Scottish Land & Estates, said: “I would like to express my sincere thanks, on behalf of Scottish Land & Estates, to Jane for her outstanding contribution. She has kept us on track for all our publication deadlines and planning for major events which are an enormous logistical undertaking. She has often been the font of all knowledge in terms of farms and rural businesses – as well as knowing where everything is in the office! She will be greatly missed by all of us. I’d also like to wish Jane a very happy and relaxing retirement.”
