SLE welcomes new report on rural housing supplyPress Release
Commenting on a new report published by Savills for the Scottish Land Commission, ‘The role of land in enabling new housing supply in rural Scotland’, Gavin Mowat, Policy Adviser at Scottish Land & Estates (SLE) said:
“We welcome this report which sets out recommendations that SLE has been calling for. This includes greater support for rural housing trusts who are well placed to deliver local rural housing across Scotland. We are pleased to see the recommendations to implement a long-term funding regime, adoption of more suitable rural development policies underpinned by sound data, as well as the development of rural-specific training for planning authorities. If adopted effectively, these will go some way to ensuring that barriers to rural housing development in Scotland can be overcome.
“It will come as no surprise to those involved in housing delivery that the report found the impact of lack of access to land is “overstated” in the delivery of rural housing, with land just one of many pieces in a complex jigsaw puzzle. We will continue working with the Scottish Land Commission and others to ensure Scotland’s rural communities thrive."
