Grampian Moorland Group
The Grampian Moorland Group are a collection of rural sporting estates that demonstrate and highlight the work the Estates and their staff undertake for our countryside, highlighting the positive impact on our rural communities and businesses. We use our social media platforms to post daily educational posts with images/videos to showcase the work carried out on our moors and the wildlife which lives their.
After Storm Frank hit Ballater, the group got together and 60 plus gamekeepers joined for a two day project cleaning up the aftermath that other people couldn't. Equipped with all the machinery and the training, they managed to clear a lot of the debris that littered the river banks and local farmers fields.
A number of educational films have been made, from Muirburn to Mountain Hares, that are being used as educational tools in schools and colleges in the UK.
The group have attended local farmers markets with our stand, which includes these film viewings, educational displays and demonstrations by the keepers, engaging with the public. They have also raised funds at these events where the money is donated back to local charities.
When microchipping was to be made compulsory by law the group held an event open to the public which seen over 200 dogs chipped and £1k raised for charity.
Gamekeepers grew moustaches for Movember in support of a fellow keeper and member of GMG who had his moustache of over 30years waxed off for men's health cancer charity and raised over £2.5k.
MSPs and school children have attended estate visits to learn more about the work that is carried out on the estates first hand.
The group also attend local blood drives and donate countless pints of blood.
The gamekeepers have turned their hand at modelling, to help raise funds for the River Dee Trust, walking the catwalk at a charity fashion event call Fashions a Keeper with Country Ways in Aberdeen.
