Croft Street Hub, Midlothian Council

The Croft Street Hub work with school refusers to establish positive outcomes, understanding the individuals better to get them back on track and learn new skills in their local area. The team are keyworkers who work one-to-one or in groups taking part in gardening and developing skills outdoors.

By providing support and encouraging them through the work at the Hub, the young people  are breaking down barriers and gaining confidence in new areas and new skills. The team's valuable experience of outdoor schooling has been blended with caseloads to work on positive outcomes for the individuals they work with.

The Croft Street Hub have transformed a derelict space in a residential area into an appealing garden which can now be shared for better future community involvement, as a free space to establish new ideas and be creative. Young people have missed many opportunities the last few years and being outdoors is a passion of everyone who works at the Hub to improve mental health and develop new skills.

They have started seed to soup to gain better healthy eating and rural skills for young people that might not have a green space at home . It also shows respect for green spaces where by parks etc are seen as hangouts for our young people and unprofessional use of space
