Bill moved to Scotland almost 30 years ago to manage the farms at Preston Hall. Over the past 30 years he has not only transformed Preston Hall but has taken on many roles outside of the farm. These include being Chairman of RHASS, machinery ring positions, local councillor positions and many others. Bill is a key member of not only our local community but also the wider farming community. Bill Gray has been at the forefront of agricultural innovation and modernisation. Through his visionary leadership, he has championed sustainable farming practices, advanced technologies and research collaborations that have increased agricultural productivity while minimising environmental impact. His commitment to improving farming techniques and supporting farmers has transformed the agricultural landscape of rural Scotland.
Bill's leadership has fostered strong community empowerment and collaboration. He has actively engaged with local communities, encouraged active participation in decision-making processes, and supported community-led initiatives. By facilitating partnerships and promoting dialogue, he has enabled communities to address their unique challenges, enhancing social cohesion and nurturing a sense of pride in rural Scotland.
Bill is well known and highly respected and his services to rural Scotland have been recognised at UK level with his recent award of an MBE for services to agriculture. Bill has transformed Preston Hall from a traditional lowland estate into a highly successful rural business with a diverse range of enterprises. Bill also won AgriScot Arable Farm of the Year 2021 and was a Monitor Farm Host 2016-19. Bill's work is now the basis for a number of PhD student projects.
