Rural business organisation Scottish Land & Estates (SLE) is supporting the Police Scotland appeal for information about a red kite caught in an illegal trap in Aberdeenshire in May this year.

Ross Ewing, director of moorland and strategic projects for SLE, said: “This is a concerning incident. Red kites are a protected species and many of our members are involved in habitat management and conservation initiatives that support birds of prey. We support Police Scotland’s appeal and would encourage anyone with information about this incident, or the use of this type of trap in the area, to contact the police.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1053.
