Do you want to gain some valuable experience working as part of the Communications Team for a progressive and friendly rural organisation?

For over 100 years, Scottish Land & Estates has acted as a voice for rural Scotland. Our vision is a prosperous and sustainable future for rural Scotland, delivering benefits for all. We do this by leading and supporting rural businesses to use Scotland’s land to deliver publicly and politically recognised and measurable benefits for society, the economy, and the environment.

Throughout the Summer, we are keen to offer an enthusiastic and dedicated candidate, with an interest in communications, the opportunity to gain work-experience and new skills.

You will provide assistance to our Communications Team, and the wider SLE staff, and in return will gain experience in producing communications content, using a variety of routes to our audience including social media, our website, our podcast, and our quarterly publication LandBusiness Magazine. You will also gain valuable insight into what it’s like to work in a fast-paced public affairs environment.

Using your skills and knowledge developed in university, you will help to complete a range of tasks, including, but not limited to:

  • Work relating to our Helping it Happen Awards (including production of case studies)
  • Adding content to the SLE website (including blogs, press releases, and information sheets)
  • Organising SLE's photo library
  • Distributing the morning news summary
  • Creating content for social media
  • Assisting in the production of ScotLand Matters and LandBusiness Magazine
  • Other general assistance for the Communications Team and wider SLE Team

Who are we looking for?

We would like to add a proactive, inquisitive, and enthusiastic undergraduate or graduate to our team to help deliver our work. No previous experience or knowledge of the rural sector is required, although a willingness to learn is essential. Critical thinking and problem solving, as well as adaptability will be important. Competence using the Microsoft suite, including Outlook, Word and PowerPoint, is strongly desired.

What will we offer you?

In addition to valuable work experience and skills development, and the chance to join us on our stand at the Royal Highland Show, you’ll be offered a competitive salary (pro-rated for length of contract), generous leave, flexible working, access to SLE member benefits, and a friendly and supportive working environment.

This role will be based in our office in Musselburgh, Scotland.
